What is Massage Movement System?

Massage Movement is a dynamic process between two individuals involving capable, intuitive touch and movement to reawaken and to evoke one's bodily responses more in line with freer movement and increased sensation.

The Elasticity Factor™

Did you know that a person can exhibit flexibility--movement which brings two body parts closer together and back again without breaking--without their muscles demonstrating elasticity--the property of resisting deformation by stretching?

This is why we stretch--to keep our body parts moving smoothly and comfortably--to remain flexible--to maintain the integrity of the joints.  But what does it mean really to stretch?  The act itself requires reaching, an extension, if you will.  Yet, the term itself implies elasticity--the ability to recover shape after the movement.  What really is stretching?  It is slow motion, range of motion movement.

So, we keep stretching to maintain flexibility.  But, what do we do to maintain our ability to stretch, i.e., our elasticity? Undoubtedly we keep stretching.  The slow, allowing kind where you can actually feel your muscle open up to the particular range of motion.  Practicing Hatha Yoga is a fantastic way to ensure range of motion movement of the muscles.  Still, while the practice of yoga is invaluable (and I maintain that it and regular abdominal strengthening has kept me practicing 16+ years), I believe that it is only through direct, hands-on work that muscle tissue maintains its optimal Elasticity Factor™ which is what I call the ability to experience passive range of motion of muscle tissue.

Massage Movement System (MMS) directly addresses the elasticity of muscle and the capacity to attain muscular range of motion while releasing postural holds which hinder flexibility.  MMS jumpstarts the retraining of your muscles.  Muscles are comprised of millions of fibers--and they're not all heading in the same direction.  We can't always stretch out a "knot".  MMS deals with the flow and direction of the muscle tissue and how it lays on the skeleton, and moves as much of the muscle it can at any particular time in the direction nature intended.  Like Hatha Yoga, it can be a challenge--but it's worth it!  Unlike Hatha Yoga (HY), it is much less labor intensive on your part--and it will help you to "allow" even more in your HY practice, sink deeper into posture.  B.K.S. Iyengar of Light on Yoga spoke of the "deliciousness" of a posture, referring to its wonderful physiological aftermath.  And we love it because we can feel itMMS let's you feel what's there and you are better off for it!

The elasticity of our muscles may naturally decrease as we age.  Even still, muscle tissue is plastic (high ability to be modified in form) so, through MMS we can directly influence the elasticity of the muscles.  MMS provides a scenario for direct, deliberate involvement in the shaping of our flesh.  And we feel and move the better for it!
